Description
Jeepneys (Filipino: Dyipni), or simply jeeps (Filipino: dyip), are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines (particularly in Manila). It’s also become a ubiquitous symbol for Filipino art and culture.
The Jeepney’s ties to Philippine history dates back to the end of World War II, when hundreds of surplus Jeeps were converted and re-purposed by enterprising Filipinos into a mode for mass transportation. A welcome innovation that helped spur the cities recovering from war.
At WordCamp Manila 2017, we celebrate that same sense of community and ingenuity with WCMNL’s own “Jeepney Wapuu”.
