Description
We decided to turn the pretty Wapuu into a small elephant wearing the typical Sicilian “coppola”. The elephant embraces the WordPress logo decorated with small graphic elements that recall the decorations of Sicilian carts.
First name? Liotruu!
But why did we choose the elephant and this funny name? Here is the answer.
U LIOTRU
U Liotru has been the distinctive symbol of the City of Catania since 1239.
This refers to the lava stone statue of the elephant that stands on the fountain in the center of Piazza Duomo.
Myths and legends are related to the statue and the name Liotru as that of Heliodorus, an aspiring bishop of the Diocese of Catania, belonging to a noble family, who abandoned religion to devote himself to magic.
Legend has it that after sculpting the elephant Eliodoro gave him life and began riding him through the streets of the city performing magical rituals. The name of Eliodoro was then crippled by the popular pope first in Diodoro, in Diotru and finally in Liotru.
